UNIVERSITY ACCOMODATION SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAM

Student Residences that achieve sustainability criteria were granted a Sustainability Award. The criteria include a variety of energy efficiency, community, health, and education initiatives. The accreditation evaluation is carried out by an in-depth peer review.

To achieve the Sustainability Award, I collaborated with students and my fellow Resident Assistant. We all lived in Ratcliffe Terrace accommodation and worked to create a more sustainable community. Throughout the 2016-2017 academic year, we organized over 13 events and over 3 sustainability initiatives.

Events included:

• Repurposing old clothes for shopping bags

• Visiting a local city farm

• Reusing jars to grow herbs

• Halloween Pumpkin Carving

• Christmas Charity Raffle

• Chinese New Year Celebration

Initiatives were:

• Battery Recycling Point

• Food Bank Drop-off

• Weekly Sustainability Tips

In the end, we raised over £200 for charity, donated over 20lbs of food, reduced energy consumption, increased community, and won the first Sustainability Award for Ratcliffe Terrace.
